There are very subtle differences between shortcreting and guniting. For example, shortcrete is newly introduced, while gunite was introduced to the industry around the early 1900s. The two mostly differ in the thickness plus the use of small coarse aggregates. Gunite does not use aggregates unlike shortcrete.
